Sutton Town Centre Operation is a huge success
Ashfield District Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour multi-agency taskforce has already seen positive results, only two months after it was set up.
The taskforce was created in September as a response to reports of anti-social behaviour, including street drinking, from residents and shop owners in Sutton.
As part of the multi-agency operation, the Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Officers, Community Protection Officers and Complex Case Workers have worked closely with colleagues from Housing Options, Framework and Nottinghamshire Police.
Since September the work of the taskforce has resulted in the demolition of buildings to the back of Costa Coffee which were attracting anti-social behaviour and waste issues. The taskforce have issued 24 Fixed Penalty Notices for Anti Social Behaviour (ASB) and waste, served 17 Community Protection Warnings for ASB and street drinking, served 6 Community Protection Notices and completed 16 alcohol confiscations for street drinking. It has also led to one pending conviction following the breach of a Community Protection Notice for ASB and one pending Criminal Behaviour Order following a conviction for ASB.
Cllr Samantha Deakin, Ward Councillor for Sutton Central said, ‘As these results demonstrate, we will not tolerate anti-social behaviour in Ashfield. Sutton town centre has been an area of concern for residents and businesses and the Council is committed to eliminating the causes of these problems. We will not hesitate to use enforcement action against any individual who commits any type of anti-social behaviour.
“This operation is also about supporting our most vulnerable residents, therefore we have established a rough sleepers panel alongside Framework in order to support and rehouse those who are homeless. We have already helped eight rough sleepers into accommodation and signposted five vulnerable residents to the correct agencies.
“I am pleased to confirm that this operation will continue and I look forward to seeing further successful results. I want to make it clear that Sutton Town Centre will be remaining an area of priority for Ashfield District Council.”
