New Council Homes completed in Skegby

The first of dozens of new council homes for Ashfield have been built in Skegby.

Two new bungalows have been added to Ashfield District Council’s housing stock following their completion this week.

Located on The Beeches in Skegby, the two-bedroom properties have been designed to be wheelchair-friendly and will be filled by residents on the Council’s waiting list.

Cabinet Member for Council and Social Housing, Cllr Tom Hollis was joined by Deputy Chief Executive and Director for Housing Paul Parkinson at the site. Cllr Hollis is proud to welcome the first of many new social housing projects ongoing across the District.

He said: “These homes are the first of their kind to come to Ashfield in a generation, so I’m delighted that we’ve been able to deliver them!

“The projects we have underway in Ashfield are just what we needed to start tackling our lengthy waiting list for council homes. Not only does it mean we will be able to house residents who need them, our developments are all based on either derelict or severely underused sites.

“Bungalows are an important part of our housing portfolio as it allows us to provide an independent living space for tenants who may otherwise end up in assisted accommodation. Filling bungalows can also mean that larger homes are freed up for families we have on our waiting list.”

In Sutton, The Poplars will also see completion of a pair of two-bed bungalows in the coming weeks and Davies Avenue will welcome 22 new properties in spring 2022.

Fifteen properties are under construction across four derelict garage sites in Hucknall. Located at Chatsworth Drive, Barbara Square, Hawthorne Avenue and Chestnut Grove, the developments are also due to start welcoming tenants in the spring.

The Council is planning a further 20 properties in Sutton, before work begins on plans for new council homes across Kirkby.
