Fixed Penalty Notices issued to fly tippers across the District

Ashfield District Council has been cracking down on fly tipping in the District by handing out Fixed Penalty Notices (FPN) to offenders.

In the past 10 days Council officers have issued five FPNs across the District:

Cosgrove Avenue, Sutton - Following a high number of reports of rubbish dumping and waste on land, Council officers attended and found garden furniture, duvets, cardboard and some other garden waste. Documentation led to finding a male who was responsible for the fly tipping and was issued with an FPN, he apologised and paid the fine straight away.

Bannerman Road, Kirkby in Ashfield – the Council received a report of fridge freezer being dumped, the offender was identified following a search of the area and issued with Fixed Penalty Notice for fly tipping.

St Mary’s Way, Hucknall – A local resident fly tipped rubbish on public land as they were expecting the Council to remove it. The resident was issued with an FPN and fined and has been told to remove his waste.

Stone Church View, Annesley - Following regular reports of fly tipping, Council officers investigated and reviewed local CCTV to find a recording of a resident caught red handed fly tipping in a hot spot location. The resident was fined and issued with an FPN and a Community Protection Warning.

St Michaels Street, Sutton – When a sofa was fly tipped Community Protection Officers conducted door to door investigations and a resident admitted responsibility. This has resulted in a £400 Fine (reduced if paid within 10 days).

Theresa Hodgkinson, Director of Place and Communities at Ashfield District Council, said:

“This last week has been an excellent example of how the Council is tackling environmental crime. Fly tipping is a serious offence and carries a maximum penalty of an unlimited fine or up to five years imprisonment. The Council is committed to driving down fly tipping and rubbish dumping, which is a blight on our communities.
“If you have large waste that you need to dispose of we offer a bulky waste collection service for a small charge. If you choose to use a waste carrier then it is your responsibility to ensure that they have the correct license for waste disposal. If they flytip your waste, you are accountable for it.”
