Ashfield District Council Supports Businesses through pandemic

Ashfield District Council continue to support local businesses through the pandemic.

Since the start of the pandemic Ashfield District Council has issued millions of pounds in grants to local businesses. Back in March the Council issued £22m in grants, in June a further £1m was issued to businesses and more than £2m has just been issued to businesses affected by tier 2 & 3 and the second lockdown.

Our Covid Information Officers have visited 760 businesses across the District, providing information and support to ensure that they are operating in a Covid-secure way. Officers are visiting all premises in the three town centres and local shopping areas.

Cllr Jason Zadrozny, Leader of Ashfield Distract Council said:

"We have successfully issued millions of pounds to businesses across the District during these difficult times. We understand how tough it has been, and continues to be for businesses, and we are committed to supporting them in any way we can.”

As part of our ongoing support hand sanitiser stations and signage are being installed in all Council owned pay and display car parks over the next few weeks, parking can now be paid for quickly and easily via an app and all our town centre car parks are free for 2 hours every day and will be free all weekends in December.

On Saturday 5th December we’ll be supporting Small Business Saturday and encouraging residents to shop small and support independent retailers this Christmas.

Cllr Zadrozny continues:

“There has never been a more important time to support our local, independent retailers. We have some fantastic retailers across the District selling everything from boutique clothing, cards and gifts to specialist food. We’ve been working closely with businesses to ensure they offer a safe environment for customers, and I encourage all our residents to take advantage of free weekend parking this December and support our local traders.”
