The Discover Ashfield awards return for another year to celebrate residents and businesses that have supported the community and contributed to the residents of Ashfield during the past year.

Councillor Jason Zadrozny, Leader of Ashfield District Council, said:

“So many people and organisations go above and beyond and we want to recognise everything that they do for Ashfield. “We want to hear from you about who you would like to see receive one of these Discover Ashfield Awards. These awards are a chance to thank them for their incredible work in making Ashfield a better place to live and work. “These winners are an inspiration, and it is an honour to get to meet them every year.”

This year’s awards brings new categories for people to nominate in, each designed to celebrate an individual or organisation’s outstanding achievements.

The categories for this year are:

  • Very Important Volunteer - Awarded to an individual who has shown outstanding commitment or achievement in an unpaid capacity by volunteering their time in Ashfield.
  • Young Shining Star - Awarded to an individual who has shown outstanding commitment or achievement in an unpaid capacity by volunteering their time in Ashfield.
  • Outstanding Organisation – Awarded to a charity / community group that has delivered amazing service to Ashfield’s residents and made a difference.
  • Phenomenal Project – Awarded to a project or programme that has been developed which has made a positive impact on the lives of residents.
  • Community Champion – Awarded to a person who has championed all that is great in Ashfield, or who has sought to improve opportunities for those living in the district.
  • Superhero – Awarded to someone who has been a real life superhero for others within Ashfield.
  • Places to Visit – For a place you love to visit in Ashfield
  • Green Ashfield – Awarded to someone/a group whose actions encourage positive outcomes for our environment.
  • Business of the Year – Open to any business within Ashfield who have been established for more than two year and demonstrate it’s ability to continue growing.
  • Best Start-Up Business of the Year- The start-up award aims to celebrate and support Ashfield’s newest independent businesses. Nominations must be for a business which is based in Ashfield and have been trading for a maximum period of 24 months.
  • Entrepreneur of the Year – Open to any entrepreneur who may have started their own business, played a significant role within an organisation or had their a business directorship or leadership role. We want to know what makes them stand out from the others.
  • Young Entrepreneur of the Year – For individuals under the age of 30 who are involved in a business. These include young entrepreneurs who are building their own venture or had a significant impact to the successes of a larger organisation.
  • Best High Street Business – Our high streets are the beating heart of our communities and we want to see them thrive. This award is open to any business based in or around Ashfield’s vibrant town and village centres.
  • Business Data Leader - Awarded to a company who can evidence the best use of the business data it generate to improve its core business processes, operations and strategy.
  • Careers, Education, Information, Advice & Guidance (CEIAG) Provider Award – Awarded to an Education and Skills provider that has provided outstanding careers provision to residents within Ashfield.
  • The Graduate Retention Provider Award - Awarded to an Education and Skills provider that has supported Ashfield-based graduates move into sustainable employment within the district.
  • Digital Skills Provider Award – Awarded to an Education and Skills provider that has supported Ashfield residents develop their digital skills.
  • The Life Skills Provider Award – Awarded to an Education and Skills provider that has supported Ashfield residents develop their life skills. Life skills are abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of life.
  • Outstanding Partner Award – Awarded to an Education and Skills provider that has worked in collaboration to support delivery of Ashfield’s Education and Skills Improvement Plan
  • Great Design Award - Capturing high quality building designs that are sustainable, innovative and projects a strong sense of place. Submitted schemes must respond to local needs / biodiversity and setting whilst also being inspirational and adaptive to climate change.
