Electric meters
Please be aware that Radio Teleswitching Systems (RTS) is scheduled to become obsolete and will affect any electric meters that still rely on this technology.
Check your electric meter
Most homes have standard meters, meaning they won’t be affected, and energy companies are working to replace any remaining RTS meters. However, please ensure that you don’t have a RTS meter as soon as possible to avoid any issues.
Meters that rely on the RTS system can be easily identified as they have separate black boxes adjacent to the meter and are often labelled as ‘Radio Teleswitch’. If you are unsure of the meter or tariff that you currently have, we suggest that you contact your Electricity Supplier at your earliest opportunity to confirm the system operating in your home.
Switch off date
If you have a RTS meter you must contact your energy provider as soon as possible to ensure that you have a replacement meter in advance of the switch off on 30 June 2025.
If you do not act, you may receive higher electricity bills or possibly experience loss of heat and hot water.
Please be advised that the Council are not managing this switch-off and are unable to contact your electricity provider on your behalf.
