Tree and Woodland Strategy Consultation
Trees and woodlands account for approximately 16.6% of the district, providing a wide range of social, economic, and environmental benefits across both urban and rural regions of the UK.
These trees are found in Ashfield's greenspaces, award-winning parks, cemeteries, and various other locations. Ashfield District Council is responsible for circa 30,000 trees across the district and is committed to maintaining and, when possible, improving the tree population.
As a Council, we strive to safeguard our trees and woodlands across the district. To uphold this commitment, only trees that are dying or pose a significant risk to safety will be removed. For every tree that is removed, two new trees will be planted in its stead. The placement of these new trees may vary based on the suitability of the original site from which the tree was taken. When planting new trees, the Council aims to adhere to the principle of 'right tree right place' to ensure their successful growth.
