The BIG Ashfield Spring Clean returns for 2023

Ashfield District Council’s Big Spring Clean is back!  This year, it is bigger and better as 16 schools and local businesses are getting involved as well as increased community litter picks.   

Residents across Ashfield will be able to dispose of an extra bag of household waste, take advantage of the Flying Skips – bin lorries for disposal of bulky items and household waste, take part in community litter picks, and book their free bulky waste collections of up to three items starting again from April.

Starting from 20 February residents in Sutton and Kirkby will be able to leave an extra bag of household waste with their usual bin collection that week. The Flying Skips will be available around Sutton on Saturday 25 February. During the same week there will be litter picks taking place including ones at The Oval Park, Carsic Estate; Kings Mill Reservoir, Sutton; and Brierley Forest Park, Huthwaite.

During the week commencing 27 February there will be litter picks in Kirkby and the Rurals at Warwick Park, Kirkby, Selston Country Park, and the Larwood Estate.

On Saturday 4 March, the Flying Skips will be based in Hucknall. It’s then the turn for

residents in Hucknall and the Rurals to leave their extra bag of waste out with their bins on the week commencing 6 March. The litter picks in Hucknall include Kenbrook Road, Titchfield Park, and Lime Tree Park.

The Flying Skips will then return to Kirkby and the Rurals on Saturday 11 March.

Free bulky waste collections start again in April, with Kirkby residents able to book their collections mid-March. The new free bulky waste scheme, allows residents to book their collection based on where they live with four opportunities spread across the year.

Free bulky waste collections can be booked on via Ashfield 24/7 on the Council’s website at www.ashfield.gov.uk/springclean or by phoning 01623 450 000.

The Council is also delivering planters made of wood donated from Door-Stop in Huthwaite, compost from Pro-grow, and vegetable and flower seeds to 16 schools in Ashfield.

Due to new Government regulations, domestic upholstered seating, such as sofas and armchairs, cannot be accepted in the Flying Skips this year. They must be disposed of via bulky waste collections only.
