Residents encouraged to get snap happy

Cameras at the ready! Ashfield District Council is looking for talented photographers to enter its 2022 Discover Ashfield photography competition.

The competition, now back for its fourth year, is open to all Ashfield residents with three category winners each receiving a £100 high street voucher. The competition opens on Thursday 16 June and closes on Sunday 31 July 2022.

This year’s brief is to photograph everything Ashfield has to offer, its places and people living and working in the District. Under 16’s is a new category for this year, and we would like to see how young people see the area they live and the spaces they use, it might even be a person who inspires you!

The three categories are:

  • Under 16s – This category is open to our younger residents only – can we unearth some up-and-coming talent who may view the District in a unique way!
  • People – People are at the heart of our community – can you capture someone enjoying one of our outside spaces, parks or recreational areas or will a clever selfie win top prize?
  • Places – We have some fantastic spaces across the District; from award winning parks and green spaces to unusual architecture in our town centres.

Executive Lead Member for Leisure, Health and Wellbeing, Cllr Rachel Madden said:

“We are excited to bring the competition back for its fourth year, building on the success of previous years. The competition encourages people to get out and possibly discover new areas of the District they don’t know so well.  The standard of entries is always very high and the judges have a tough decision to make to pick the winners. I wish all entrants the best of luck.”

Judging will take place in the days after the closing date on the 31 July 2022 and the winners will be announced in the week beginning 15 August 2022.
