Renovations to former Yorkshire Bank progressing well

14 Low Street, the former Yorkshire Bank in Sutton, is the first of the Council’s Future High Street Fund projects to near completion.

The building, located in Sutton town centre, is being renovated to create two new commercial units on the ground floor, and two new apartments on the first floor, as part of the £6.27m of Future High Streets Fund.

As part of the Towns Fund Green Ashfield initiative, the building has had photovoltaic panels installed on the roof to create clean renewable energy, reducing the carbon footprint of the occupants. The apartments will also benefit from air source heat pumps which convert heat from the air outside to water to heat radiators and underfloor heating. Both energy efficiency measures mean that the tenants will enjoy lower energy bills and warmer homes.

The works are expected to be completed in spring 2023.

Cllr Matthew Relf, Executive Lead Member for Regeneration and Corporate Transformation, said:

“The refurbishment of the former bank will bring vibrancy back into the run-down part of Sutton, whilst creating good quality homes in the town centre. We have been able to install the latest energy efficiency standards to ensure lower bills for tenants, and to contribute to the Council’s net zero ambition.
“Soon residents and visitors will be able to see the real changes that Ashfield District Council are making in Sutton and Kirkby through the over £70million worth of investment from the Future High Streets Fund and Towns Fund.”
