More than £475k secured to address crime and anti-social behaviour in Ashfield

Members of Ashfield District Council’s Cabinet will discuss later this month funding which has been secured to facilitate the implementation of projects to address crime and protect vulnerable people across the District.

This takes the total amount of external funding secured by the authority to support its Safer and Stronger priority to more than £2 million since 2019.

As part of the £476,168.30 secured, this includes:

• Funding from the Nottinghamshire Police Crime Commissioner:
  • safer4all’ grant funding to the total amount of £91,666
  • ‘immediate justice scheme’ grant funding to the total amount of £55,428
  • ‘safer streets 5’ grant funding to the total amount of £216,094
• Funding from Nottinghamshire Police:
  • ‘hotspot patrol’ grant funding to the total amount of £38,583.30
• Funding from the Nottinghamshire County Council:
  • ‘sanctuary scheme’ grant match funding to the total amount of £40,000
  • ‘DLUHC’ funding to support survivors of domestic abuse to the total amount of £34,397

Projects which will benefit from this funding include:

• Camera deployment, signage and installation - CCTV installation and signage in target areas
• Burglary reduction scheme - Installation of security measures in residential homes (20-40 premises)
• Environmental improvements - Assess for lighting, hedge, tree removal, erection of fences
• PSPO Delivery of serious violence and violence against women and girls signage
• Licensed Premises Scheme - Deliver scheme with a minimum of 10-30 premises
• Ash for Angela Scheme - Delivery of staff training, production of posters and materials at a minimum 25 venues across commercial venues within the District
• Work with NHS and GP surgeries to address Serious Violence, Sexual Abuse and Domestic Abuse
• Immediate Justice Scheme - To identify individuals who can provide community payback across the District for ASB related offences
• Hotspot patrols - To undertake 358 hours of hi-visibility patrols in both Hucknall West and Sutton East areas of Ashfield to improve feelings of safety and deter ASB
• Domestic Abuse and Sanctuary Scheme - To provide safe accommodation, provide support and help safeguard survivors of domestic abuse through various interventions including providing security measures in residential properties across the District

Cllr John Willmott, Executive Lead Member for Community Safety and Crime Reduction at Ashfield District Council said: “Working with partner agencies to tackle and reduce levels of crime and anti-social behaviour in the District is a massive priority for us and this funding will enable us to do so.

“This funding will allow us to continue to deliver community safety initiatives that focus on preventative, educational and enforcement interventions across areas of most prominence.

“We want our communities to feel safe and we are working hard with partners to achieve these goals.
