Long Term Plan for Kirkby consultation stage two
Ashfield District Council is running a further consultation on how the £19.5 million Kirkby Long Term Plan funding should be spent.
The Council previously ran an initial survey looking for project ideas throughout May, those ideas have helped set the vision for the funding, and an overall plan for Kirkby and Annesley.
Now the Council is looking to hear what residents, businesses, and people who work in Kirkby think of the long list of possible projects. Following this round of consultation, the most popular ideas will be presented to the Kirkby Town board for finalisation.
All ideas fall into one of three categories set out by the government:
- Safety and security – examples include new and improved security infrastructure, such as CCTV and streetlights, additional hotspot policing, and local authority wardens.
- High streets, heritage, and regeneration - examples include utilising the Plaza for events and markets, greening up areas of the town centre, and creating opportunities for young people.
- Transport and connectivity – examples include road improvements, such as improving congested junctions, new programmes to encourage cycling, and making the town centre more walkable and accessible.
The consultation is running until 5 July and everyone that completes the questionnaire will be entered into the prize draw to win £150.
John Bennett, Executive Director for Place said
“This is a huge opportunity for the Council to work with residents, businesses and workers in Kirkby to implement real transformational change. We now have vision thanks to everyone who filled out our first survey, and we want to build on this to create a final list of projects that matter to residents.
“In Kirkby we are already spending several million of our £62.6 million Towns Deal on 4 or 5 projects that will have a huge impact on the town, and this Plan for Towns Funding is another chance for us to build on these projects to change Kirkby for generations to come.”
