Crowds at the Christmas lights switch on event 2023 in Hucknall

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Ashfield

The festive spirit is returning to Ashfield as the annual Christmas celebrations are back.

Out of the Box Events on behalf of Ashfield District Council is bringing all the joy of the festive season back to Sutton, Kirkby and Hucknall.

Christmas carols will fill the air of the town centres and colourful lights adorn the streets once again.

Schools from across Ashfield and community groups will be providing the entertainment for the switching on of the Christmas lights throughout November and December.

Running from 4pm to 7.30pm, all 3 events will include a Christmas market, fun fair, and hot food and drinks to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.

The big man himself will be arriving on his sleigh as Santa will greet young visitors.

The switch on events, which will take place at 7pm, will include the Christmas tree, town centre lights, and the 3D feature lights.

The events, proudly sponsored by Everyone Active, are taking place on:

  • Sutton Light Switch-on, supported by Sutton Rotary Club and ATTFE: Thursday 21 November – Market Place car park, Sutton
  • Kirkby Light Switch-on, supported by Kirkby Rotary Club: Thursday 28 November – Kirkby Plaza, Kirkby
  • Hucknall Light Switch-on supported by Hucknall Rotary Club: Wednesday 4 December – Hucknall Market Place car park and Hucknall High Street

This comes after a hugely successful year of events for the Council, which included the return of Ashfield Show and Sparks in the Park, the first fireworks event in over 10 years.

Cllr Jason Zadrozny, Leader of Ashfield District Council, said:

“Christmas is my favourite time of year and the switching on of the Christmas lights is always a popular fixture in the Ashfield calendar.
“The town centres always look fabulous when the Christmas lights are on and for me it is the start of the festive celebrations. The town centres really are a buzz of excitement and I’m looking forward to seeing you all come down and join us for this.”
