Green light for 3G pitches on Sutton Lawn
Brand new 3G football pitches are heading to an Ashfield park after being given the green light.
Ashfield District Council’s Planning Committee has approved plans for two new artificial grass 3G football pitches at Sutton Lawn.
They will replace the current pitch at the park, which is being removed as part of the planning application.
The plans also include an overflow car park which will include 30 extra parking spaces.
These pitches will be managed by Sutton Community Academy and will be used for PE during school hours. They will be available for community football organisations, sports clubs and private hire during the evenings and weekends.
The Academy will be responsible for operating the site and the bookings.
This is part of the wider Sports Hub Project at Sutton Lawn. It has been awarded Government funding through the Towns Fund and Future High Streets Fund.
John Bennett, Ashfield District Council’s Executive Director – Place, said:
“The Council is dedicated to improving and providing more sports facilities across the District. Today’s decision is another step in that commitment.
“We are opening up our green spaces and parks to provide more opportunities for our residents. We know the pupils of Sutton Community Academy will also make the most of these during their PE lessons. We may even see future England stars start out on these pitches.
“Health and Happiness is one of our priorities as a Council and I look forward to seeing the new pitches become a reality.”
The pitch dimensions are suitable for Football Association match play.
