Council seeking residents’ views on proposed Parking Order

Residents are invited to have their say on Ashfield District Council’s proposed Parking Order 2023 before the Council launches a formal consultation.

The new order is proposing to increase the number of off-road parking spaces in the District and to ensure the fair usage of its car parking.

At the Council’s Cabinet the decision was made to hold an informal consultation period on the proposed Parking Order. The new Parking Order 2023 is required to implement changes to the existing Parking Order and to cover the new car parks which will be created for Kirkby Leisure Centre and projects such as Fox Street.

Comments made will go to Cabinet in February where the decision to advance to a formal consultation would be made. Following the formal consultation, if the order is approved, it would come into force in December 2023.

The Parking Order proposes the following:

  • To include additional land owned/managed by Ashfield District Council – Fox Street, Sutton; West Kirkby Gateway; Papplewick Green, Hucknall; Langton Road junction, Sutton; New Street, Sutton; and Kings Mill Reservoir, Sutton
  • To make the parking structure at Kirkby Leisure Centre, Lammas Leisure Centre, and Hucknall Leisure Centre the same – up to two hours free, up to four hours £2
  • To alter the limits of stay and parking charges at Sherwood Place, Sutton – from short stay to long stay
  • To introduce an overnight parking charge of £1 from 6pm to 6am
  • To revoke and amend the conditions and use of some existing parking places
  • To incorporate references to new legislation and to revise the existing fees and charges

The full details of the proposal, including the Proposed Order, are available on our website and at the Council Offices, Urban Road, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, NG17 8DA on Monday to Thursday between the hours of 8.45am and 4.45pm and on Fridays between 8.45am and 4.15pm (excluding the week commencing 26 December 2022, and 2nd January 2023 when the offices are closed).

Comments or objections to the proposals must be made in writing via email to carparking@ashfield.gov.uk or addressed to the Director of Place and Communities at the Council offices. Comments made on social media will not be included.

Please state the grounds on which any comments or objections are made and ensure they arrive no later than Thursday 16th February 2023.

Cllr Samantha Deakin, Executive Lead Member for Parks, Town Centres and Environmental Services said:

“The proposed order will increase the number of off-street parking places in Ashfield, improve fair use of the car parks, encourage turnover by regulating the parking restrictions, address the current issues at the leisure centres, meet the needs of blue badge holders, and maintain high quality public parking places for the community.
“It is vital that all residents have their say on the proposed order now to ensure we can take everyone’s comments into account before plans are finalised for the formal consultation. The Council is committed to providing quality car parking and the new order will guarantee that we can continue to deliver.”
