Crowds stand around a giant LED snowman in Hucknall

Christmas is coming to Ashfield 2023

Ashfield District Council is bringing the festive spirit back to the District with the return of the annual Christmas celebration events taking place in November and December.

Sutton, Kirkby, and Hucknall’s town centres will be adorned with glittering lights, and Christmas carols in the air, throughout November and December. All three events will feature a host of entertainment on the stage, a Christmas market, and hot food and drinks to get everyone in the Christmas spirit. The events will conclude with the Christmas light switch on of the tree, town centre lights, and the 3D feature lights.

The events are taking place on:

Thursday 23 November – Market Place car park, Sutton, 4pm – 7.30pm

Sutton’s Christmas Celebration event will feature a packed stage with performances from Leamington Primary Academy, St Mary Magdalene Primary School, Dalestorth School Choir, Regency Dance Centre, and Star and Stage. The stage will finish with a grand finale by Breanna.

As well as the live entertainment there will be almost 50 stalls for visitors to browse on Market Place car park, King Street and Low Street, and plenty of food options to keep the whole family happy.

Thursday 30 November – Kirkby Plaza, Kirkby, 4pm – 7.30pm

Kirkby’s Christmas Celebration stage will feature performances from Kingsway, Orchard, and Greenwood Primary Schools, Fortitude Danceworks, and Christine March School of Dance. The grand finale will be the Red Hot Band to close the event.

Kirkby’s Christmas market features 50 stalls with a variety of food, gifts and crafts on offer across Kirkby Plaza and Lowmoor Road. Moor Market will be open late for the event with stalls and food inside for people to shelter from the cold. The fairground rides will be on Ellis Street.

Wednesday 6 December – Hucknall Market Place car park and Hucknall High Street, 4pm – 7.30pm

Hucknall’s stage will feature a mix of choirs from the National C of E Primary School, Linby-cum-Papplewick CE Primary, Hucknall Flying High Academy and Hucknall Torkard Ensemble Choir; dance groups Elise Florence Dance Company, Phase One School of Dance, Believe Academy Dance School and Kirsty Ceroc Dancers and live music from Hucknall Ukulele Group and Izzy Pop Show Band.

Visitors to Hucknall will be delighted to find almost 80 stalls with an array of hot food, snacks, gifts, and crafts including world street food, German sausages, hot chocolate and waffles.

The big light switch on will take place at 7pm at all three events and will see the tree, town centre lights and popular 3D feature lights come to life.

Cllr Chris Huskinson, Executive Lead Member for Leisure, Health and Wellbeing, said:

“Our Christmas events are always the most popular fixture for residents and we are pleased to bring them back with a bang. We can’t wait to see everyone enjoying themselves, and our town centres filled with a buzz of excitement.”
