BIG Ashfield Spring Clean is once again a huge success
Hundreds of tonnes of rubbish have been removed from the streets of Ashfield as the BIG Spring Clean was back with a bang.
Ashfield District Council took to the streets armed with bin bags and litter pickers for the eighth year running for the return of the popular event. The teams collected more than 100 tonnes of unwanted rubbish in the flying skips alone. Added to that was the litter picks on parks, streets and problem areas across the District.
Residents were invited to have a good clear out with the flying skips and extra side waste collections with the teams also holding community engagement events with local businesses and schools. This year has also seen the return of the free bulky waste collections.
The flying skips saw residents dispose of more than 130 tonnes of rubbish as they paid a visit to Sutton, Kirkby, Hucknall and the rurals over three weekends. This included 51 tonnes in Sutton, 38.9 tonnes in Kirkby and the rurals and 39.16 tonnes in Hucknall.
Cllr Jason Zadrozny, Leader of Ashfield District Council, said:
“What another incredible BIG Ashfield Spring Clean. I would like to thank everyone who got involved – from the residents and businesses who joined the litter picks to the schools who created some impressive bug hotels. A big thank you also to the Council staff who do a brilliant job of organising this every year.
“The Spring Clean is always a hugely popular event and makes a real difference to our communities. This is all part of the Council’s commitment to a cleaner and greener Ashfield.
“I look forward to doing it all again next year.”
The free bulky is back for another year with the Council offering one free bulky waste collection per year of up to three items to every household in the District.
Full details on free bulky waste collections are available on the Free bulky waste page.
