Ashfield District Council and Ideas4Careers join forces to shape young futures
Ashfield District Council is thrilled to announce its collaboration with Ideas4Careers, a leading career guidance company, on the ground breaking Aspiring Careers Ashfield project.
Supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, this initiative aims to unlock the full potential of every young person in our community.
Through our partnership with Ideas4Careers, we are working closely with nine secondary and primary schools across Ashfield to create pathways for success.
We had the privilege of participating in the Aspiring Careers Ashfield Launch for Parents at Selston High School.
Inspiring opportunities right here in Ashfield
Parents, students, and local business leaders gathered to discuss employment prospects and emerging sectors. The goal was to raise awareness and inspire young people and their parents about the diverse range of career opportunities available right here in Ashfield.
Speakers at the event included Martin Rigley OBE and Gary Jordan MBE, both prominent local business figures, who emphasized the new and growing industries locally and skills in demand. Nick Mellors, another local business figure, provided insights into the impact of digital technology on various careers and highlighted the evolving skill sets needed for the future.
Councillor Matthew Relf, Ashfield District Council’s Executive Lead for Growth, Regeneration and Local Planning, said:
“Young people are the future of Ashfield and we need to support them as they make important decisions about what they want to do after leaving school. There are so many exciting career options in the area and many different routes into them.
“Ashfield District Council is proud to be working with Ideas4Careers on this unique Aspiring Careers Ashfield project. This will help families and young people to make the right choices for them to find their path into work and find a fulfilling career.
“Ashfield District Council is investing in skills centres like the Sherwood Observatory and Science Discovery Centre, the Automated Distribution and Manufacturing Centre, and the Civil Engineering and Construction Centres. Combined with the many fantastic employers we have in the area, the future for our young people is set to be an exciting one.”
Michelle Taylor, Managing Director of Ideas4Careers, expressed her excitement:
“The Aspiring Careers Ashfield project exemplifies our dedication to shaping a brighter future for our young people. We want young people in Ashfield to be informed, inspired, and equipped for success. Parents play a crucial role in shaping their children’s career choices, so it’s equally important that parents are aware of the great opportunities emerging here in Ashfield.”
Ross McKinlay, Assistant Head at Selston High School, said:
"At Selston High School, part of The Two Counties Trust, we believe that student's personal development, including careers guidance is important to support their personal ambitions and growth. Teaching our young people about employability skills such as, teamwork, organisation, communication, as well as subject knowledge is key to them leaving school with the correct set of tools to become part of the world we all share together.
"Working with local employers' and people in business supports this in many ways and helps students understand the ever changing world or work, preparing them for jobs that might not even exist yet."
