Ashfield Council investments to see new outdoor sports facilities in Kirkby
Investments into bowls and other sports facilities have been welcomed by local community groups.
Last month, Ashfield District Council’s Planning Committee approved proposals for a new pavilion and extended car park at Kingsway Park in Kirkby.
This project will see the demolition of the existing changing rooms and the creation of a new changing room sports pavilion and new bowls pavilion.
In addition new mini grass pitches will be created and the existing pitches improved. The car park will be extended with an extra 49 spaces, including 6 EV charging spaces and 7 accessible spaces. The scheme is being funded by Towns Fund and an application to the Football Foundation is currently being assessed. Works are due to start on site in early summer.
As well as the new bowls pavilion at Kingsway Park, plans for a new sports pavilion at Titchfield Park in Kirkby are also being developed.
This is part of the Council’s transformation programme for outdoor sports facilities across the District.
So far, the Council has engaged with football, netball and bowls clubs in Ashfield to on plans for improving facilities moving forwards.
Cllr Chris Huskinson, Executive Member for Leisure, Health and Wellbeing at Ashfield District Council said:
“We understand the importance of sports facilities for all ages in the District and realise the benefits sports such as bowls brings to the community.
“Enhancing and improving facilities such as those at Titchfield Park and Kingsway Park is a key priority for us.
“We look forward to working closely with local clubs and groups across the District to further improve sports facilities for the people of Ashfield.”
