Chairman's Corner

Cllr Arnie Hankin
Chairman Cllr Arnie Hankin

Hello, I would like to tell everyone how I got introduced to Council work and becoming a Councillor. One Saturday afternoon, former District Councillor Cllr Martin was doing some Council work in the Community Centre in Underwood and just out of curiosity I went and had a chat with him. He was doing some fantastic work like all the Councillors do and he said to me ‘would you be interested in being a Councillor, its only an hour a month’, well that hour a month turned into a day a month, then a week a month, then a month of a year and has now turned into nearly 6 years! and it has been an absolutely wonderful journey so far.

I have now become Chairman for the second time and can hopefully be so helpful and rewarding to the good people of Ashfield. I wear the Chains of Office with pride and honour, and it is a wonderful position to be in.

I would like to share with you my favourite Saying that my Grandma always used to say to me when I was feeling a little bit down in the dumps!

Be content with simple things,
And make the most of what life brings,
Stand aside and smile and say,
Isn’t this a lovely day.

Perhaps if you are feeling a bit out of sorts, try and remember what my Grandma used to say to me and I hope it brings a smile to your face as it did and still does to mine.

Chairman's chosen charities

Alzheimers Society Logo

As part of my role as Chairman I raise money for charities of my choosing, this year I have chosen Parkinson’s UK and Alzheimer’s Society. These 2 charities are very dear to me as I have very close family members who have and are suffering from both of these illnesses.

Parkinsons UK Logo

I would like to raise as much money as possible to donate to these two very worthwhile charities. These charities do so much to help and support those who are suffering and the families of those suffering with these illnesses.

I am sure that my chosen charities will be dear to each and everyone of you and together we can help to contribute to make a difference to people’s lives.
