New Council Homes coming to Ashfield

Work to bring dozens of new Council homes to Ashfield has begun.

Ashfield District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing Cllr Tom Hollis joined Deputy Chief Executive Paul Parkinson at Davies Avenue in Sutton this week to see construction progress.

In partnership with social housing and care organisation emh group and Homes England, the site will see 22 new homes built, including six three-bed houses, ten two-bed houses, four two-bed apartments and two bungalows.

The site has been left derelict since the demolition of the former Sutton Town Social Club and is due for completion in Spring 2022.

Work has also started on other Ashfield sites including five new family homes on Stoney Street and two new bungalows at The Beeches in Skegby. Work will soon begin on two more bungalows at The Poplars in Sutton.

In Hucknall, plans to redevelop four garage sites at Chatsworth Drive, Chestnut Grove, Barbara Square and Hawthorne Avenue will see a total of 15 new homes built. Construction at all these sites is due to commence in May.

Three brand new two bedroom houses on the Hawkers Place development in Hucknall are due to be handed over to the Council in the next few weeks and let to families on the Housing Register.

Cllr Tom Hollis, Portfolio Holder for Housing said:

“It’s vital that we add to our housing stock in Ashfield so that we can continue to provide good quality affordable homes for our residents. That’s why we will be adding over 100 new homes to the Council’s stock over the next few years.
“The variety of property types being developed at Davies Avenue and across our other sites in Sutton and Hucknall reflect the local demand. I’m extremely proud of this Council’s work to bring these projects together and deliver for the people of Ashfield.”

Chris Jones, Executive Director of Development at emh group, said:

“We are delighted that through our strong partnership with Ashfield District Council we have been able to contribute towards meeting the housing aspirations of people in the area. We are particularly proud of the range of property types we have been able to deliver, going some way to addressing the range of demands of local people.”
